“Riding Out The Storm For A Brighter Tomorrow“
Thunder Ridge is proud to offer Equine Assisted therapy to address the challenges faced by our clients. We seek to create partnerships with local health care professionals, government agencies, and interested parties to further our cause. By pairing client with our horses, we create a safe environment to serve as catalysts and metaphors to allow clinical issues to surface. Our horses provide a therapeutic effect by serving as teacher, listener, comforter, distracter, and friend.
Types of EAP
Therapeutic Horsemanship – Mounted or unmounted activities that focus on learning horsemanship skills for better horse-handling and improve riding skills. Benefits can include:
Therapeutic Riding – Therapeutic intervention focused on skill development, facilitated by a qualified instructor. Focused on goal progression.
Hippotherapy – Therapeutic intervention facilitated by credentialed professional. Client is positioned on the horse, and actively responds to the horse’s movement. Used as part of an integrated treatment program to achieve functional outcomes.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) – An emerging field focused on emotional growth and learning through experience, involving a licensed therapist and a horse professional.
Equine Facilitated Learning (EPL) – Learning approach that promotes the development of life skills for educational, professional and personal goals through equine-assisted activities. Working with equines provides opportunities to teach critical life skills such as trust, respect, honesty and communication.
